Overcoming Death - Saadh Sangat - Company of Holy
Once bonds are shattered individual is
free from birth and death. Under influence of such bonds (Ego can make him atrocious,
Lust
can make him rapist, Greed can make him robber,
Worldly
Bonds can cripple his thought process to accept his so called family
faults, Anger can make him act irrationally and he can do anything
to hurt
others) an individual is bound to commit sins. So does it mean such
individuals have no hope? Can they never come back to right path? Well, if we
believe in ‘Guru Ghar – The House of Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’ being
illuminated with Divine Light of Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji the
return is possible. How? Well, Dhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji says
that million of sinners are saved in ‘Saadh Sangat’ in following words and
what is better than company of Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji:
कोटि अप्राधी संतसंगि उधरै जमु ता कै नेड़ि न आवै ॥
(Millions of sinners have been saved in the Saadh Sangat;
the Messenger of
Death does not even approach them.)
Further Paatshahi 5 is inspiring
every one to chant and meditate in ‘Saadh Sangat’ and confirming that an
individual in Company of Holy will escape Death in following words:
साधसंगि जपि निसंग जमकालु तिसु न खावनो ॥१॥
(Whoever chants and meditates in the Saadh Sangat,
shall undoubtedly escape being consumed by the Messenger of Death.)
साधसंगि जनम मरण निवारी ॥
(In the Saadh Sangat, the cycle of birth and death is
ended.)
साधसंगि जमदूत न भेटन ॥२॥
(In the Saadh Sangat, the Messenger of Death
cannot even touch them.)
Dhan Shri Guru Raam Das Ji
and Dhan
Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji bestow Their Blessings in following words
and telling every one by ‘Their’ own experiences that ‘Saadh
Sangat’ is a way to immortality and overcoming death:
अमर पिंड भए साधू संगि जनम मरण दोऊ मिटि गईआ ॥१॥
(My body has become immortal, in the Saadh Sangat,
Both birth and death
have come to an end for me.)
नानक साधू संगि जनमु मरणु सवारिआ ॥११॥
(O Nanak, in the Saadh Sangat,
my birth and death
have been adorned and redeemed)
No matter what ‘Gurbaani’ says, a seeker
in early days is always full of doubts and questions. In modern times the
rationality just plays with his mind. He wants answer to his questions before
he can bow down to ‘Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’. That is the plight of every
individual until he is blessed to achieve glory without asking any question
(Like Bhai Lehna Ji who never asked a single question to Dhan
Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, question like why I should do so, what will be
the benefit, how this will help and so on, and eventually he achieved what no
one in His time period could, Dhan Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji, Dhan
Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji). So one such question he asks, how ‘Saadh
Sangat’ will save me from death? Well, ‘Dhan Baba Nanak’ and Dhan
Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji knower of everything, every inner mental state
of an individual answers in following words:
कागदु लूणु रहै घ्रित संगे पाणी कमलु रहै ॥ऐसे भगत मिलहि जन नानक तिन जमु किआ करै ॥४॥४॥
(Paper and salt, protected by ghee, remain untouched
by water, as the lotus remains unaffected in water. Those who meet with such devotees,
O servant Nanak - what can death do to them?)
जनम मरण की मिटी जम त्रास ॥साधसंगति ऊंध कमल बिगास ॥
(My fear of birth and death and the
Messenger of
Death has been dispelled. In the Saadh Sangat, the inverted lotus of
my heart has blossomed forth.)
His Devotees
the gist of ‘Saadh Sangat’ have world of their own. They save
every one in their realm by acting as protective shields. They help an
individual to realize his true goal of meeting him by awaking the source of
knowledge, inverted lotus, in him. Such is the glory of ‘Saadh
Sangat’, such is their realm free from all sorrows, pains, sufferings
and death as per following words of Dhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji:
संत मंडल महि जनम मरणु रहै ॥ संत मंडल महि जमु किछू न कहै ॥
(In the Realm of the Saints, birth and death are
ended. In the Realm
of the Saints,
the Messenger of
Death cannot touch the mortal.)
‘Saadh Sangat’ can only be
found in company of ‘True Guru’. Again the same question
who is ‘True Guru’, One who is cheating innocent or one who is stealing
from masses or one who is just boasting about his knowledge or one who is
befooling navies with cheap tricks or one who will become dust sooner or later?
What will be achieved in company of such individuals, well just shame and pains?
When ‘Gurbaani’ has declared ‘Shabad Guru – Word is the Guru’ then
why there is scope of doubt in modern times that after Paatshahi 10 any living
human form can be The Guru. Do The Company of Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and
serve Him since serving Guru can free a mortal from cycles
of life and death which will be covered in next section.
