It is believed that ‘Falsehood’ never goes
unpunished. And Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Dhan Shri Guru Amar Das give
‘Their’
nod on this belief in following words:
पचि पचि बूडहि कूड़ु कमावहि कूड़ि कालु बैराई हे ॥१५॥
(They are ruined, destroyed and
drowned from practicing falsehood; death is the enemy of the false.)
(He
is engrossed in false pursuits; he shall endure beatings in the City of Death.)
Guruji
make is clear that ‘False’ has end. A world made on ‘False’ is sure to fall.
And people practicing ‘Falsehood’ will surely ruin and
eventually the ‘Death’ will pierce them. ‘Death’ is enemy of ‘False’.
No matter what an individual does, ‘Death’ will find him. No tricks can
save him and eventually he will be beaten up ‘Death’. It’s not that
those following or living ‘Truth’ will not die but they will
not suffer in pain. We will look at it later as in this section focusses on ‘False’.
So, what is ‘False’ or ‘Falsehood’?
What everyone does can it be ‘False’? How it could be ‘False’
since every does it? Well, everyone has his/her version. But again the
perception is limited so is the understanding. Thus, we will first look at
expectations which individuals set classify as ‘False’ as per Dhan
Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji
and Dhan
Shri Guru Raam Das Ji say following:
(Mother,
father, spouse and child - none is anyone's friend in the end. Without the Lord's Love,
no one is liberated.)
(Emotional
attachment to children and spouse is poison; in the end, no one will go along
with you as your helper.)
A family man lives for his family. He
cherishes every relation. But as per Guruji it will turn out to be ‘False
– The Poison’ if he does not remember ‘The Lord’. In last moment
only ‘HE’ can save none else. Guruji never opposes taking care of
family in fact ‘They’ inspire to have have family and ‘They’ led by example.
But ‘They’
emphasizes just think about family without remembering ‘HIM’ is ‘False’.
‘They’
never negate the idea of being attached to ‘Family’ but not at the
cost of forgetting ‘The One’. Since in the last moment ‘Family’ will be incapable
of saving an individual from jaws of ‘Death’ but ‘HE’ alone who is
omnipresent, all powerful can save him. Ravidaas ji says following:
(But you cannot stay in them, even
for an instant, after death.)
(Don't you realize, that this world
is the house of death?!)
Who needs a ‘Dead Man’? Unfortunately
no one even though people who loved an individual have to give him see off. An
individual may call everything as his, he can call the world as ‘mine’
but as per Ravidaas Ji, the world is house of ‘Death’. Such is plight of
human life. Kabeer Ji has further to say about it in following words:
मरती बार इकसर दुखु पाइआ ॥२॥
(But at the time of death,
you shall have to endure the agony all alone.)
It is human tendency to find ‘shoulder’
in hard times as having another shoulder pacifies the pain. It gives a feeling
of security that ‘someone’s’ support is available to overcome the pain. But as
per Kabeer
Ji the pain, the agony of ‘Death’ has to be endured alone so
why not to make ‘HIM’ companion.
We will further look what other are other
hopes and expectation which Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
classify as false other than just being only attached to family. Dhan
Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji says following:
(All
the pleasures of Maya are tasteless and insipid. In the end, they shall all fade
away.)
(Sensual
pleasures are talked about a lot, but none of them goes along with anyone in the end.)
(I
have seen the many pleasures of Maya, but none goes with them in the end.)
‘Maya’ is word well known and prevalent
in Indian Culture. It refers to something which is transient in nature. How
long pleasure lasts? They can be long but cannot last forever. Hence, Guruji
calls them tasteless. The association with them will just lead individuals to
wither away. Dhan Shri Guru Raam Das Ji calls the wealth accumulated as
false in following words:
इहु धनु स्मपै माइआ झूठी अंति छोडि चलिआ पछुताई ॥
(This
wealth, property and Maya are false. In the end, you must leave these,
and depart in sorrow)
Well, everyone in grip
of Maya engage in ‘False Actions’. So what happens to them? As per Dhan
Shri Guru Amar Daas Ji and Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji:
(He
collects the poisonous wealth of Maya, and then dies; in the end, it is all reduced
to ashes.)
(But
this Maya
that they love so much shall not go along with them in the end.)
So, Maya is deceitful and that’s why Dhan
Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji warns mortal to fall in love with trivial things
under the influence of Maya in following words:
तिसु सिउ न लाईऐ हीतु जा को किछु नाही बीतु अंत की बार ओहु संगि न चालै ॥
(Do
not fall in love with trivial things; in the end, they shall not go along with you.)
Other engagements are related to power.
Those who want to live as Kings with armies following their order are being
warned by Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in following words:
लसकर नेब खवास सभ तिआगे जम पुरि ऊठि सिधास ॥२॥
(He
must leave all his armies, assistants and servants; rising up, he departs to
the City of Death.)
There are few who takes
cherishes their body (physical strength or beauty) are warned by Dhan Shri Guru
Teg Bhadur Ji in following words:
जो तनु उपजिआ संग ही सो भी संगि न होइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
(That body, which you were born
with, shall not go along with you in the end.)
Well, as per Dhan
Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Kabeer Ji in following words:
अंति संग काहू नही दीना बिरथा आपु बंधाइआ ॥१॥
(In the end,
nothing shall go along with you; you have entrapped yourself in vain.)
(None
of these will go with you or help you in the end.)
Give clear message that mortals just
waste life entrapped in ‘things’ which have no meanings. Such
things neither go with them nor help them in the end. All the ‘False’
expectations just lead to ‘The End – Death’. But we still need
to understand what ‘False Actions’ are which will be covered next in light of Dhan
Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
