Overcoming Death - Saadh Sangat - Company of Holy
True ‘Saadh Sangat’ blesses
with HIS vision. Please note I have specifically used word ‘True’.
This word has been used in modern time’s context since most of the groups just
mislead individuals to believe that they are ‘Saadh Sangat’. I just
want to emphasize again one can only find ‘Saadh Sangat’ only in company of Dhan
Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Coming back to original discussion, as per Dhan
Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji following words ‘Saadh Sangat’ ends the
fear of death:
जनम मरण को चूको सहसा साधसंगति दरसारी ॥३॥
(My fear of birth and death
has been abolished, beholding Your Blessed Vision in the Saadh Sangat.)
‘Saadh Sangat’ is the teacher as per
following words of Paatshahi 5:
जनम मरन के मिटे अंदेसे ॥साधू के पूरन उपदेसे ॥
(The fear of birth and death is
dispelled, by the perfect Teachings of the Holy Saint.)
उपदेसु सुणि साध संतन का सभ चूकी काणि जमाणी ॥
(Listen to the Teachings of the Holy Saints,
and all fear of death
will be dispelled.)
Teacher educates and trains his students
to learn, to sharpen their intellectual, to enhance their wisdom, to grab
skills using his experience. This all helps students to live better life, to
create opportunities for him and others. Similarly ‘Saadh Sangat’ implants
spiritual wisdom, enhance spiritual content, blesses with skill of praying to
an individual to take on death head on. And only fearless individual, from whom
fear of death has been dispelled, can do it. He inspires others and shows the
path. Well, ‘Who’ can be better inspiration and guide than Dhan
Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. In His Company, ‘Saadh Sangat’, an
individual will rise above all fears. But, how to do His Company? Well, bow
down to Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and listen what Guruji
has to say, you will find Dhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, His
teachings and His Blessings to take on any
adversary even death without fear. Guruji continues to tell us in
following words that ‘Saadh Sangat’ is found by ‘Good
Karmas’ and offers protection from death in following words:
जा को रे करमु भला तिनि ओट गही संत पला तिन नाही रे जमु संतावै साधू की संगना ॥
(One who has good karma, grasps the Protection of
the hem of the Saint's robe; in the Saadh Sangat, the Messenger of Death cannot threaten him.)
Death
hits an individual with such intensity that no armour can save him. But the
robe offered by ‘Saadh Sangat’ has such strength that it can stop death.
And that’s why Guruji says that meeting the ‘Holy Saint’ fear of death
has eneded in following words:
नानक जनम मरण भै काटे मिलि साधू बिनसे सोक ॥२॥१९॥५०॥
(O Nanak, the fear of birth and death
has been removed; meeting the Holy Saint, sorrow is dispelled.)
साधसंगति जनम मरणु निवारै नानक जन की धूरा ॥४॥४॥१६२॥
(In the Saadh Sangat, birth and death
are ended. Nanak is the dust of the feet of the humble.)
How an individual becomes humble? Guruji
answers in following words:
टूटे बंधन जनम मरन साध सेव सुखु पाइ ॥
(The bondage of birth and death is
broken and peace is obtained, by serving the Holy.)
‘Holy Saint’ is free from ego. So
serving Saint makes an individual humble. To understand it just imagine
an individual serving an egoist man, lets assume a king. King has ego that so
many are serving him. An individual, who is serving him, will be impacted by this
aura. And eventually ego of serving a king will enter into him. How many times
we have heard, I work for that diplomat. This is sheer ego. But in case of service
to Saint
having no ego, how such influence will be passed to the server. And an
individual free from ego is peaceful as he breaks the bonds of death. And that’s
why Guruji
asks every one to dwell in ‘Saadh Sangat’ to overcome death in following
words:
टलहि जाम के दूत तिह जु साधू संगि समाहि ॥
(The Messenger of Death
retreats from those who dwell in the Saadh Sangat.)
