Summary
How far a seeker wants to go to meet
Guru? How hard the circumstances may be, they cannot stop a seeker once the
thirst is awakened to see The Guru. Guruji says, even violent storms and
torrential rain cannot stop a seeker from catching glimpse of Guru. If an
individual gives excuses of not able to see The Guru, it is just his sheer unwillingness and laziness. Else even extreme forces of nature cannot stop him.
Oceans signify following (again no one
can understand all the meanings of Gurbani):
1. Size: So for a Gursikh,
the distances don’t matter. He has zeal which can make him cover any distance
to see The Guru.
2. Salty: Salty water cannot
quench the thirst and Gursikh’s thirst is so vast that only vision of Guru can
quench it.
Also, there comes a stage in a seeker’s
journey that his heart becomes as big as ocean, simply because Guru ensures
that Grace flows into him from every where. But he should not become arrogant
and become useless like sea water which cannot quench the thirst. So he has to
overcome it, surrender himself at Guru’s Feet. Thus Guruji, Knower of All Mental
States, is saying that Gursikh will cross over oceans that are huge and
contains salty water to get to his Guru.
Water is an essential for a mortal so
is The Guru for Sikh. Without water living beings will die and Sikh without The
Guru. Rains bring relief from scorching heat. It rejuvenates the life. And when
Sikh meets The Guru he becomes lively. And Guruji says, as earth looks
beautiful when the rain falls, so does the Sikh blossom when he meets the Guru.
Dhan Shri Guru Raam Das Ji is epitome of
humbleness and with great humity says that He longs to be the servant of HIS
servants and He remembers ‘The Lord’ reverently in prayer. He just wants us to know
that being humble is the key and nothing is as fulfilling as service to The
Guru. He offers this prayer to the Lord, that he may meet the Guru, and
find peace.
